GOING going, BACK back TO HOBART

Myself and Affiks played in Hobart in December and had a ball (hold tight the Curried Scallop Pie mandem), so much so that we've been asked to go back again in March. This time for an all day festival of all things bass! Its a benefit gig on the long weekend for Labour Day and it sounds like its gonna be proper fun. No flyer yet but press release thingy below


An epic line up of international, interstate, and hobarts finest in reggae, dub, dubstep, glitch, grime and all the wobbly bits ensures it's a sunday session not to be missed.

A lazy tenner on the door gets you in on the action, and funds raised go to Still Wild, Still Threatened.

And the other thing, Monday is a holiday, Sunday's gunna be HUGE.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

It might have taken 2 years to get going but its shaping up to be one of the biggest clashes in grime. For those who've not been keeping up basically P Money has been sending for Ghetts for the past couple years with no response, but now Ghetts has a new release coming up he's decided to go for it.

Devlin absolutely killed it with 'London City' i thought as do many others from its popularity this year. Proper makes me feel homesick! I've also stuck in 'Community outcast' as although its an old track the video was new this year.

'Next hype' was without doubt the number one grime tune this year and really put Tempz out there. Raves everywhere were destroyed by this tune, i dont think i've played anywhere this year where this didnt get a reload! Extra props for the jokes Westwood cameo at the beginning

TEMPA T - NEXT HYPE


This one's my Summer jumpoff for sure! Bushbash killed it bringing Shizzle and Discreet together on the Miss Independant riddim. Pure quotables...'brush ya bladder like a broom'. I've absolutely rinsed this tune, love it!

DISCREET feat SHIZZLE - PUM PUM SHORTS


When Loco first played me this one i just screwed up my face and went 'uuuurrrrgh'! Fucking filthy! There's a a video of us on youtube somewhere when he drops it at Wobble, you should see the looks on our faces, madness!

With his unique style people been waiting on Big H to drop something solid for a good few years now and it didnt dissapoint when it arrived. 'Street crime UK' got a lot of people hype this year and with his new one 'Fire and Smoke' coming in early 2010 he's only gonna cement himself further as a big gun in the scene

Ok, so for like the past two years one of the biggest talking points in grime has been the whole Ghetts / P-Money will they wont they clash. Ghetts started it off a while back , P responded and since then its seemed like Ghetts has been putting it off with talk of P not being on his level etc etc all the while P has been consistently holding it down on radio, raves, mixtapes and causing a lot of people to question if Ghetts is really built for it...well Monday night Logan dropped a remix of the Sharky Major banger 'Shark Attack' featuring Sharky, Dot Rotton, Devlin, Ghetts and....P-Money!?

This has seriously got the grime scene talking right now what with more jabs at each other on the same track! From the sounds of it the Lord of the Mics clash just aint gonna happen as Ghetts says he wants to concentrate on making cash, which on one hand you could say is a bit of a cop out, but to be fair he does fuck this tune up hard! So does P-Money really, you almost forget about the other three who are all heavyweight mc's in their own right. About time there was something like this happening to liven things up a piece!

Yep, i know i posted about the new Big H cd, 'Street Crime Uk', a few posts below, but at that point i'd only skimmed thru it briefly. Since then its been on non-stop rotation (along with the new Ghostface) and i gotta say this CD is dumb!!! I'm normally someone who just listens to radio sets and random tunes 'cos most album just dont grab me, but fuck me this is some madness!!! Obviously its full of coke and murder talk, but he does it in such a way that i just cant get bored of it, menacing and funny all at the same time. QUESTIONS FOLLOWED BY ANSWERS - JERMZKI

So as I’m getting nearer to the completion of my new CD I’m gonna try and get a few Q&A’s with some of the people I’ve been working with.

First up is a guy from Canberra going by the name of Jermzski who’s been making some killer grime beats! Since I’ve been in Australia I’ve been searching high and low for producers making grime with not much luck until my boy Diem played me a CD of some of Jermzski’s beats and I was blown away that there was some dude over in Canberra of all places making such heat. I managed to link with him while I was in Canberra for a show a little while back and we’ve been speaking back and forth and getting some stuff underway. So far I’ve got two of his bangers on the CD, one just myself and one with the rest of Smash Brothers featuring…anyways, lets get this started.


First up state your name and location

Juzlo Jermzki! originally from Canbreezly, now residing in Sydney!

So how long have you been producing for now and what equipment are you running?

I have been dabbling in produkka now for 8 years! shit! but only really been taking it more seriously for the past 3 years.
I be using, Orion Platinum, Pro tools, Fl studio, Sound forge, behringer truth b3031a monitos, native instruments audio kontrol 1, 1200 technics.

Did you start off on the dubstep/grime thing and what was it that first got you interested in it?

Yeah started off on the 2-step/garage thing, so picked up on crews like Blazing squad, Fire camp, DJ EZ, So Solid, but I remember it was so hard to find anything of the sort out here. At the same time I was getting into the jungle/dnb thing, wasn’t until Dizzee done ‘Boy in da corner’ that I got more exposure and started digging hard to find more of the grime thing and it was such a breath of fresh air from the over saturated hip hop that I was listening to, few of my mates got into it as well and we'd just share and feed info off each other and haven’t looked back since..
the beats and energy of it all got me into it..

What other producers out right now are you feeling?

Thunderclaps, J.F.L.O.W.S, Two Fingers, Blazin beats, Skream, D Bridge, Calibre, Break, 16 bit... I could go on all day..

Is there any sort of scene happening where you live?

The dubstep scene is absolutely vibing here at the moment, hip hop is pretty concrete as well, grimes a bit held down people just dont know, but its like a slumbering giant and I’m drawing all over its face so it'll awaking soon and be really pissed off...

What have you been working on recently and what have you got in the pipeline?

ahh hopefully more Smash Bros shit in the future!, done a beat for Swarmy G, i've been working on some new dubstep, and some new tracks with Centaspike, and basically just building up the grime scene in Oz..
