LONDON GO HARD!!!

Living in England and being a fan of home grown hip hop during the late '90's and 2000's MK's mixtapes (yep, this was when they were cassette tapes!) were always an essential listen. I lost any i had a looong time ago but have fond memories particularly of the exclusive freestyles he used to grab, Skinnyman on some Hi-Tek beat was my favourite. Well after a little break running his radio show and DJ'ing wherever he's just sorted us out with Volume.17! Its 2009, so the cassette has been replaced by a link and the choice of tunes is more reflective of now (which is a good thing, hold tight the DJ's stuck in their ways!) and all in all its something you need to grab ASAP

BORED AS FUCK

I'm sick, stuck at home with nothing to watch. Daytime TV is soooo shoddy and most of DVD's dont work cos they're English region, So i thought i'd up some music.
I recorded a new dubstep tune with Melbourne DJ/Producer Afficks last week called 'Next sound level'. AC23 dropped it at Wobble on Saturday night for the first time and it smashed it i'm pleased to say. Automatic rewind!

THINGS THAT WIND ME UP #1

FUCKING RECEPTIONISTS!!! I have to speak to doctors and surgeons a lot at work and trying to get thru the gatekeeper on the phone is a nightmare. Most of them seem to be middle to elderly woman with nothing going on in their own lives so a little bit of switchboard power and they act like the most self-important swine's!
Disclaimer - I dont mean all of them, i have friends who are receptionists (i'm sounding like the rascist who says 'some of my best friends are black'), and of course there's the cliche hot receptionists (who incidentally i very rarely see), i'm just talking about the bitter old one's who look like this.

So a couple weeks ago at a Plastician set up jumped Skepta, Jammer, Footsie, D Double and....Dizzee. People went on a hype when they heard about this! Dizzee on dubstep and back on some old grime riddims again. Got people chatting about 'Dizzee's gonna start making grime again' lol...anyway, regardless of if he decides to make grime again its good to hear him spitting some of them old bars. Anyway, some video's finally turned up...Footsie and D Double killed it! Shame no one got on the blower to Wiley huh?

TIME OUT

So while Melbourne was being smashed by the heatwave last week me and M-Phazes took a trip over to the Gold Coast for a few days for a well deserved break. Everyone knows Surfers Paradise is pure tack, but still i always love it there, i'm a sucker for tack.
Days were spent doing nothing but sitting by the pool or on the beach drinking in the sun getting stupidly burnt. I'm not a massive fan of beaches, but could have spent all year chilling on the ones up there.

Going out in the Gold Coast is the worst part of it, the clubs are soo bad. Just pure mainstream waste with some absolute jokers in there. First night at some place called 'The Bedroom' (yes it had beds all over the place) for some cheesy RnB nite we saw the ultimate in wannabee G's everywhere. There were these two guys wearing sunnies inside decked out in Ed Hardy taking pics of each other all night and then checking the camera to make sure the pics were thug enough! Phazes could have definitely got away with this hat in there!

Phazes is from GC originally so we hooked up with his boys for a bit. Spent an afternoon with Choose Mics (Mules + Haunts) and dropped a verse for their upcoming album 'Beggars cant be choosers' which is sounding heeeavy! Look out for that dropping in the firs half of this year. Here's Haunts (aka David Beckham) sipping on some mad shit called, ahem, "Fairy Bomb', a strange absinthe pre-mix which was actually pretty sick.

On the last day i even managed to get dragged thru the bush (well, a very, very tame Fraksha friendly version of it anyway) to find some creek to swim in. Anyone who knows me knows i'm not into all the random weird animals and insects you find in Oz so this was major for me:) Probably everyday shit for a lot of ozzies but seeing this little fella was pretty cool for me.

I'm not much of a swimming person either (apart from water parks, they dont have sharks or crocs) buut was persuaded to go for a swim in this creek and it was fucking mad! i shit myself when it went all dark and i couldnt touch or see the bottom but soon got over that. It had these real strong currents rushing thru it so you could just lie back and float downstream.
Do you think Phazes was trying to edge me out of the shoot and focus on something else on the left hand side?

I dont feel homesick all that often (you could pay for my flight and i you'd still have a hard time getting me on the plane) but seeing London in the snow does it for me. Takes me back to skipping school to go sledging and lobbing snow covered stones pretending they were snowballs...sorry. For real tho, i love England in the snow, winter got the best garms too!

A CUNNING ENTRANCE

Am i right in thinking tickets for yesterdays Laneway festival were $99? Fuck thats a rip off for something thats pretty damn crappy. Lucky then that we didnt pay :) Spent the day drinking in Section 8 then realised that a mate lives right smack bank in the centre of where the festival takes place so surely theres no way they can stop him and a few mates going round his yard!!!

So we walk up to the entrance, he flashes some ID showing his address, they just wave us through! So we bought a thimble of beer at the extortionate price of $8 before a brain wave hit us. They cant actually stop our mate from walking back and forth through the entrance with whatever the fuck he likes, so he goes on a mission to the bottlo and brings back a bag of long necks, win win win! Everyone around us is getting ripped off with shitty plastic cups after paying a oner to get in and we're sitting back enjoying our free entry and $5 long necks.

Eventually security clocks us, but realises there's not much they can do so just ask us if we wouldnt mind using plastic cups! It was a pretty shit festival though from what we saw, a real wanker fest, but it was funny seeing groups of 14 years olds gurning their chops off in the middle of the city.

Also spotted some idiot over the top cops who were threatening some young girl with pepper spray cos she was getting upset and crying at her boyfriend getting arrested. Seriously dont understand their mentality. You got some 18/19 year old girl in tears obviously upset and scared and then this 40 year old macho fool holding the can to her face screaming at her 'you'll get it next!'. Hope one day he ends up in jail without the benefit of being in the protection wing!
